A Fall Hike at Hanging Rock State Park: Hiking with My Favorite Partner

Updated: 2 hours ago
One of my favorite ways to enjoy the outdoors is by bringing my dog Shiloh along for the adventure, and Hanging Rock State Park in North Carolina was the perfect place for a little fall adventure. With the beautiful colors and crisp outdoors there was no better way to spend this day.

Hanging Rock State Park has such beautiful mountain views, rocky overlooks, and miles of scenic trails, it’s the perfect destination for anyone who loves getting outside and getting some fresh air.
The hike was filled with AMAZING autumn scenery, as is obvious in the photos. The mountains stretched for what felt like an endless distance and the fall colors in the trees made our jaws drop. It felt like we were standing in a postcard.
Reaching the rocky overlook was definitely one of the highlights. Standing above the rolling mountains and taking in the view was such a reminder of how beautiful the outdoors can be and how much better it is doing with your best friend.
Hiking Is Even Better with Your Dog
Of course the best part of the adventure was having my furry hiking buddy right there with me. There is nothing I enjoy more than watching my dog explore on the trails and enjoy the fresh air, while taking in new sights and smells.
There’s something about exploring nature with your dog that makes even the simplest moments feel extra special. Whether we were walking through the colorful forest or taking a break at the overlook, having my dog along made the hike feel like the perfect little adventure.
A Few Tips for Hiking with Your Dog
If you’re planning a trip to Hanging Rock State Park with your pup, here are a few things to keep in mind:
Bring plenty of water: Hiking can be tiring for both you and your dog, especially on warmer days. I always bring a collapsable bowl that attaches to his leash for easy carrying.
Keep your dog leashed: This keeps your pup safe around other hikers and rocky areas.
Pack a few treats: Perfect for little breaks along the trail.
Check trail regulations: Not every trail or area of the park allows dogs, so be sure to review the park’s current pet rules before heading out.
Be mindful of the terrain: Rocky overlooks and steep sections require extra care, especially with your furry hiking companion.
A Little Reminder to Get Outside
Hiking at Hanging Rock State Park was such a beautiful reminder to slow down, get outside, and make time for the things that bring you and your pup joy.
If you’re looking for a scenic fall adventure, I couldn’t recommend exploring the outdoors with your dog enough. Sometimes the best memories are made on a trail, with a little fresh air and your best friend right beside you.
Here's to more hikes, more mountain views, and more adventures with my favorite four-legged companion.
